The DNC Blunder

Image
At the time of this post going to press, it has only been 11 days since Donald J. Trump was elected President of the United States. Oil and water doesn’t seem like an accurate enough metaphor to describe how those things fit together. But as much as I or other might not like it, this has happened and is now a part of world history  and it is our duty as citizens to examine how it happened and hypothesize as to why. There have been many examinations done by some who have more exhaustive resources than I , but there is one more angle that keeps coming up in conversations that not many consider. What contributed to the downfall of the Democratic party in the 2016 election was an overindulgence into the effect and personality of Barak Obama as President.             I have lived through a very small part of American history and American presidents but I had always loved studying it through high school and college. The foundi...

My bicycle made its usual clicking as I walked down the hall of my apartment complex towards the outside world. ‘This is too early for any human to be awake,’ I kept telling myself. Groggy and stiff, I carried my two-wheeled transport down the stairs and out the front gate. Needing one more stretch, I threw my hands above my head and felt the amazing creak that only an early morning stretch can give. It was suddenly interrupted with a sharp pain in my side. I brought my hands down to find the source and fell upon a wasp, struggling to escape my tank top. As the pain spiked, I was suddenly amazed at the feeling. While not the most earth-shattering thing, it was still fascinating. When was the last time I felt something like this? Not an annoyance, but pain, physical pain that stimulated my nerve endings and registered as a need to be attended in my brain? I couldn’t remember. How far we have come as a species! I ride my bike to work, come home, study, go to sleep, wake up and d...

The Humanity of the Neglected

Image
It is always an interesting phenomenon when the image of something is drastically different than the reality. Especially when that reality is one as easy to observe as homelessness. It is because of this dichotomy that I have chose to produce an expositional piece on the real circumstances of three homeless people. This is not a huge undertaking, consisting of countrywide statistics and preaching stances. This is simply a look at whom these people are and what they think of their situation, why they think they are there and how they feel they got there. I will frame my questions, observations and conclusions through the lens of Human Rights, specifically those exhibited in the mainstream treaties and declarations adopted by the United Nations. I have decided to do this because I see the way that our society portrays the homeless is a caricature of how they really are. Perhaps unconsciously, we are conti...

I am a God

Image
What exactly makes someone a god? Does everyone around you simply have to believe that you are a god or do you need to prove it, demonstrating god-like abilities such as performing turning water to wine and walking on water? These questions lead to even more important concepts, branching out into bigger and more complicated ideas of godhood. It is within this realm that I base my post tonight. A little more than an hour ago I left the Oracle Coliseum in Oakland, California. There in the tenth row I sat watching Kanye West perform the act of his Yesus tour. Before and during the performance, West made some interesting controversy by defining himself and his music within the context of Jesus Christ. Why would an artist of such caliber and intelligence (yes, I believe he is an extremely intelligent person) open himself up to such an easy channel of criticism? An interesting thing I have learned from adopting a more liberal degree, is that once a piece is published and ou...
