The Republican Reversal on Robert Mueller

This is a blog about my opinions and ideas, I usually
don’t get into why things are the way
they are, it gets a little too into speculation for my taste. But for this post we are going to do exactly that: speculate. Today the New York Times ran a story about the fraying relationship between the Trump Administration and the Special
Counsel headed by Robert Mueller. In the past few weeks the Republican party
has walked back its initial almost universal praise of Robert Mueller, and denouncing the investigation in general. “Not looking good, it’s not looking good — it’s quite
sad to see that, my people were very upset about it” said Donald Trump in
typical meandering fashion. It has been pretty amazing to see the decent of
opinion since the investigation begun handing out subpoenas. But I think
this sudden effort by the right to discredit the man whose honor was ‘beyond doubt’
is simply due to calling the Trump family’s bluff.
There has been two collections of emails released by Donald Trump Jr., and many hearings for Jared Kushner,
Jeff Sessions, and Michael Flynn to ‘clarify’ their earlier words under oath. I believe there are only two explanations to the public displays of cooperation and mass disclosure: they literally do not understand that what
they are doing is wrong, or they are cleverly manipulating the enforcement
body. members of the Executive Branch may be subject to the same laws as you and I, but the enforcers of those laws is actually Congress. The Trump team
understands that it is a massive political risk for one governing body to indict another.
With each new revelation, the Trump team essentially dares any and all to try and come after them. I believe that
Robert Mueller has called this bluff.
Now that the Trump team
understands they cannot scare the special persecutor into submission, they have
moved to discredit the entire effort as a partisan witch hunt. It seems unlikely that such a meticulous person like Robert Mueller would take any
action without having sufficient evidence. I believe that the actions so far are indicative
of a far larger body of evidence to not only charge those already
indicted, but rightfully pursue all those involved.
